Seminar on China-CEECs Higher Education Cooperation and Exchange Held Successfully
On October 23, the seminar on China-CEECs higher education cooperation and exchange was successfully held during the 21st China Annual Conference for International Education & Expo (CACIE). With the theme of “China-CEECs Higher Education Cooperation and Exchange in the New Socio-Economic Context”, the seminar was live-streamed online and offline worldwide.
Mr. Fang Qingchao, deputy director-general of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges, Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China, and Ms. Shen Xuesong, deputy secretary-general of CEAIE, attended the seminar and delivered speeches. Professor Ioan Vasile Abrudan, President of Transilvania University of Brasov, Romania, delivered the opening speech via video conference.
In his speech, Fang Qingchao said that since the China-CEEC Cooperation Mechanism established in 2012, the two sides have always adhered to the concepts of equality, openness, pragmatism and innovation. It has developed into a model of regional cooperation that spans different regions, advocates win-win cooperation, upholds multilateralism and meets common challenges, and has played a positive role in promoting the overall balanced development of China-EU relations, especially in the field of education, a series of positive results have been achieved. Next, China is willing to work with CEE countries to explore new development opportunities, cultivate new momentum of “17 + 1 cooperation”, unswervingly expand education opening to the outside world, and further support China-CEECs higher education cooperation, opening up a new situation for it in the face of the epidemic.
Both Ms. Shen Xuesong and President Abrudan mentioned in their speeches that the friendship between China and CEE countries has gone through the ages and we have always supported each other and shared weal and woe. The two sides will continue to pay close attention to the current exchanges and cooperation, responding to the global common challenges with an open and cooperative attitude; focus on changes in the new social and economic situation, and promote the development of world education with more open and innovative measures; create new modes of exchange and cooperation to build a community with a shared future for mankind with a more open and shared concept.
The seminar also invited Professor Yan Hong, vice president of Xi’an Jiaotong University, Professor Huang Ronghuai, Dean of Smart Learning Institute of Beijing Normal University, Professor Ugljesa Marjanovic from University of Novi Sad, Serbia, and Professor Dimitris Hatzinikolaou from University of Athens, Greece to discuss the cooperation and exchange of higher education in the application of information technology, health and safety, biotechnology, and green economy.
At the same time, in order to promote targeted and high-quality cooperation, the announcement ceremony of China-CEECs Higher Education Cooperation Guidance, compiled by Beijing Foreign Studies University, was held during the seminar by the Secretariats of CCHEIC of both sides. It was hosted by Professor Zhao Gang, dean of the School of European Language and Culture of Beijing Foreign Studies University. Ms. Fu Bo, director of the Department of International Cooperation, China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE), and Professor Adrian Lacatus, dean of the Faculty of Letters, Transylvania University of Brasov, Romania, presented the china-Europe cooperation guidelines respectively.
The seminar attracted more than 400 education counterparts from 17 countries to participate. All parties reached a broad consensus on the “17 + 1” education cooperation, expressed their concerns and prospects for education cooperation and exchanges, took the first steps of strengthening the cooperation after the epidemic, and clarified the development intention of the education cooperation of both sides in the next stage. China is willing to join hands with CEE countries to fight the epidemic and to promote mutual cooperation and development in education.

In order to promote better understanding and smooth cooperation between Chinese and CEECs universities under the platform of China-Central Eastern European Countries Higher Education Institutions Consortium (abbreviated as CCHEIC), the Secretariat of CCHEIC will hold the Seminar on China-CEECs Higher Education Cooperation and Exchange. The seminar would like to discuss China-CEECs higher education cooperation opportunities and challenges in the new socio-economic context, including how to further strengthen ICT cooperation and application in education, and how to strengthen scientific research collaboration and exchanges in “Big Health”, global health security or biotechnology and green economy.
